Tablet sales to experience the turning point in 2014
According to a new study conducted by researchers at Canalys, 2014 is expected to be a turning point in the tablet market.Canalys believes that next year 50 percent of all PC shipped worldwide will not be PC in the traditional sense of the term — will be compressed. Will tablets reigns supreme on Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android platform accounting for approximately 65 per cent of all shipped tablets or about 185 million units. Really like the smartphone market, Samsung (OTC: SSNLF) will lead the charge in Android tablet market.Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) remains the largest single-brand accounting for market share of 30 per cent and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), the remaining five percent. If tablets take market share of 50 per cent, which is 285 million units shipped in 2014. Canalys expects that number to increase to 396 million units by 2017.Switching from PC to tablet is dramatic. In February this year, Canalys noted that only one third of the PCs have been compressed. It is original forecast for 2013 was for tablets to hold a market share of 37 percent by the end of the year, but has since raised that number to 40 percent. The Android platform holds the lead because of the volume. Various manufacturers create devices based on the Android platform at multiple price points. In this way almost all consumers to purchase a Tablet based on Android. Instead, Apple is the only device that uses the operating system iOS and its tablets, as his phones, are priced at a premium high-end prices.Related: Apple CEO vetoes proposed Thanksgiving Day opening more storesThe report makes a BOLD statement on Apple's market share. "Apple's Decline in market share of PC is inevitable when you consider its business model. Samsung took the lead in EMEA this quarter, and Apple will lose the position competitors in most markets in the future. "But as the report later notes, Apple is not able to find this alarming. Apple's business model is to put the emphasis on profitability rather than market share."However, Apple is one of the few companies to make money from the tablet boom. Premium products attract high-value consumers; for Apple, remaining highly profitable and drive revenue from its entire ecosystem is of greater importance that the market share statistics ".About Microsoft? With the acquisition of Nokia (NYSE: NOK) the company may be poised to become a major player in the mobile device market but Canalys notes that it ashore before its business model. More mobile operating systems is problematic for developers.Looking out for 2014, expect the Tablet landscape to look very similar on the smartphone market — a duopoly Apple and Samsung, but some of the smaller producers are finding momentum.Disclosure: at the time of this writing, Tim Parker was Apple.-Published In: Apple Google Microsoft Canalys Samsung Tablet Windows Econ #s Tech best PhoneNews Benzinga(c) Benzinga.com 2013.
